World Heritage Site Nijo Castle Cherry Blossom Festival 2024 / Limited time illumination
Nijo Castle in Kyoto is now a world heritage site and attracts tourists from all over the world. During the cherry blossom season, which is one of the most beautiful of the four seasons, there is a limited-time event where the cherry blossoms are illuminated at night.
More than 300 cherry blossoms of 50 varieties, including wild cherry blossoms, sato cherry blossoms, and double red weeping cherry blossoms, blooming within the castle grounds, as well as the garden, will be illuminated with projection mapping, and the walkways will be illuminated with foot lamps. Nijo Castle at night creates a mysterious world. During the event, Kyoto's specialty products will also be on sale.

*Preschool children are free. If you have a disability certificate (physical disability certificate, rehabilitation certificate, war injury/injury certificate, Mirairo ID, etc.), the ticket price for you and one caregiver will be half price. Present the above certificate at the entrance.
Blooming status of cherry blossoms at Nijo Castle
There are approximately 300 cherry blossom trees planted at Nijo Castle, and you can enjoy them from mid-March to late April. The cherry blossoms bloom in the following order: 1. Kanhizakura, 2. Keiozakura, 3. Someiyoshino, 4. Yamazakura, 5. Weeping cherry, and 6. Satozakura.
As of March 22nd, Kanhizakura has started to fall a little due to the cherry blossom snowstorm, and Keiozakura (Toukaizakura) is in full bloom.
Nijo Castle has posted the current cherry blossom blooming status, so if you want to go to Nijo Castle to see the cherry blossoms, you should definitely check that out before heading there.
